Bring in Summer with a Memorial Day Party
With Memorial Day being the official beginning of summer, plus the day we honor our soldiers, this is a perfect reason to invite friends and family members to a Memorial Day Party. There are various types of Memorial Day parties that you can host. Let’s take a look at some ideas to bring in the summer with an unforgettable party.
With the weather heating up, the best type of Memorial Day party is to have a BBQ. If you have a pool, then you can make it a pool party, also. With it being the beginning of summer, start enjoying the outdoors.
You can have the party at your home in your backyard or at a local park; it depends on the number of guests and the size of your yard. A BBQ is very easy to put together and can be one of the most fun parties of the summer. Now in planning an outdoor party, you will want to stay on top of the weather forecast to make sure rain is not in the outlook for the day of your party.
Invitations
Once you have chosen the location, send out your invitations. These can be a fun, casual invitation. If you have everyone’s email address, you can use a site like Evite to send out invitations and to keep track of everyone who is coming. Sending them out via email makes it easier and saves time for you.
Decorations
Decorations are a must for any party, but with a BBQ, these will be nice and simple decorations. Of course, the theme is red, white, and blue. You can use American Flags as table decorations. You can hang red white and blue streamers and use red white and blue balloons strategically placed at different locations throughout your party area.
At your local party store, Walmart or Target will have many options when it comes to Memorial Day decorations. If you have the time, you can even be creative and make your own.
Food
Food is simple for a BBQ, but you want to make sure you have enough for the number of people attending. Typical BBQ menu is hamburgers, hotdogs, ribs, or BBQ chicken for the main course.
You can even set up a hamburger and hot dog bar with lots of different toppings that people can choose from to add to their burgers and hot dogs to make them unique and not just the ordinary hamburger or hot dog. Some ideas for toppings range from the usual onions, relish, tomatoes, cheese, pickles, lettuce, and chili sauce to the more unique such as feta cheese, sprouts, coleslaw, bacon, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, olives, salsa, jalapenos, avocados, etc. The possibilities are endless.
Of course, you will want to have the usual condiments such as ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and barbecue sauce. You can add ranch dressing. Use your imagination and get creative. You will impress your guests, and they will love it.
Then for side dishes, choose 2 or 3 like baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, linguini salad, bean salad, deviled eggs, anything that will hold up outside, and taste good with your main dish or dishes. Don’t forget dessert, which can be a flag cake, cupcakes, or a jello mold shaped like a flag.
You can also cut up fresh fruit and arrange it in the shape of a flag. You can have strawberries or watermelon for the red stripes on the flag, bananas, melons, or pineapple as the white stripes and blueberries for the blue on the flag. Fruit is always a very popular choice at BBQs.
Games
Although it is a bbq party, you will still want to have games for adults and children. Having water balloons for the kids is a fun game and will keep them cool. Volleyball is an excellent game for adults or a game of softball. You can also play cornhole, which is a lot of fun for all ages. You know your guests, choose games that will fit children and then games for adults.
Favors
You hosted a fantastic party that you want everyone to remember, but what type of party favor can you use for a bbq? A fun treat, plus an exceptional memory are personalized candy wrappers. You can choose a design from the 4th of July section that would also be nice for a Memorial Day theme then add the date of your bbq. You can even get custom water bottle labels that are made of waterproof paper that you can put around water bottles as a special added touch. These are both perfect for kids and adults.
Enjoy planning your party and starting your summer off with fun!
